Capacity Building Training for Roma NGOs

Within the scope of the “Local Modeling of Public-NGO Dialogue Group for Roma” project carried out by the Zero Discrimination Association, a Capacity Building Training and a meeting for Roma NGOs was held in Gaziantep on January 11-13, 2014.

The training, which was carried out to contribute to the development of the organizational capacities of Roma NGOs, was attended by Roma NGO representatives from different provinces of Turkey (Istanbul, Edirne, Izmir, Hatay, Gaziantep, Diyarbakir and Artvin). The NGO representatives were given training on topics such as Discrimination, Organizing and Civil Society in the Fight Against Discrimination, Rights-Based Approach and Advocacy, Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow of the Civil Society Movement in Turkey, Participation of Civil Society in Decision-Making Mechanisms and the Role of NGOs in the Fight Against Discrimination in Turkey.

Following the training, the results of the field research conducted in 5 different provinces of Turkey (İzmir, Hatay, Gaziantep, Diyarbakır and Artvin) were shared with the participants by representatives of the Zero Discrimination Association. In light of the data from the field research, an action plan was drawn up to solve the problems experienced.

As part of the organization, on Monday, January 13, 2014, the results of the field research conducted in 5 different provinces were announced, solutions to the problems experienced were discussed with representatives of public institutions, and a neighborhood (where Abdal Groups live) was visited.
