Swedish minister of Turkish origin meets with Roma people
Swedish Minister of Housing and Urban Development Mehmet Kaplan met with Romani association chairmen in Turkey, where he visited for various contacts
EDİRNE (AA) – Swedish Minister of Housing and Urban Development Mehmet Kaplan also met with Romani people in Turkey, where he visited for various contacts.
Romani Education Volunteers Association Chair Turan Şallı told AA correspondent that they met with Turkish-origin Swedish Minister Kaplan in Istanbul.>Şallı, who stated that the meeting was organized by the Zero Discrimination Association, noted the following:
“Kaplan had requested to meet with Zero Discrimination Association Chair Elmas Arus to obtain information about Romani people living in Turkey and to learn about their problems directly from the voices of Romani association chairmen. Within this framework, we attended the meeting together with Edirne Romani Associations Federation Chair Erdem Güyümgüler and Romani activist Şadi Çatı.
During the meeting, the guest minister was told about the general situation of the Romani people in Turkey, as well as the problems experienced by the Romani and the Dom, Lom and Abdal groups that live like Romani people, urban transformation problems, and problems related to education “He liked our music group project that we established with Romani children and said that he would support it.”
