Training for Roma Civil Society Organisations
It was reported that Zero Discrimination Association provided capacity building training for Roma civil society organisations in Gaziantep.
In her written statement, Hatice Çetinkaya, member of the board of directors of the association, stated that the Ministry of Family and Social Policies, the Ministry of European Union, the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of National Education, the Ministry of Health, İŞKUR, 34 Roma non-governmental organisations and two federations in different regions of Turkey are involved in the project ‘Local modelling of public - civil society organisations dialogue group for Roma’ carried out by the association.
Stating that within the scope of the project, capacity building training was provided for Roma civil society organisations in Gaziantep, Çetinkaya said:
‘Representatives of Roma non-governmental organisations participated in the training, which was carried out in order to contribute to the development of the organisational capacities of Roma non-governmental organisations, to draw the attention of local administrations to the problems experienced by Roma and groups living like Roma and to develop cooperation with local administrations to solve problems. The organisations were trained on issues such as discrimination, organisation and civil society in combating discrimination, rights-based approach and advocacy, the past, present and future of civil society movement in Turkey, participation of civil society in decision-making mechanisms and the role of civil society organisations in combating discrimination in Turkey.’
